Designing Systems That Serve the Public Good
We are a human-centered design consultancy specializing in government and enterprise digital transformation — building the interfaces, systems, and experiences that citizens and professionals depend on every day.
Clarity, Craft, and Consequence
KMH Design Lab exists to close the gap between complex government systems and the people who rely on them. We believe that good design is not a luxury — it is a prerequisite for effective public service.
Our work spans the full spectrum of digital delivery: from discovery research and service blueprinting to production-grade front-end engineering and AI-assisted workflow automation.
People First
Every decision traces back to the humans using the system — citizens, caseworkers, analysts, and administrators alike.
Security & Compliance
We design within the constraints of federal security frameworks, accessibility mandates, and procurement regulations.
Delivery Velocity
Agile, iterative, and outcome-driven — we ship working software early and refine continuously based on real feedback.
Systems Thinking
We look beyond the screen to understand the organizational, technical, and policy layers that shape every user experience.
Built from the Ground Up for Government Work
KMH Design Lab was founded with a singular focus: bring the rigor and craft of world-class product design to the public sector. Too many government digital projects fail not because of bad intentions, but because of fragmented processes, siloed teams, and a lack of design leadership.
We embedded ourselves in federal agencies, learned the procurement landscape, earned the clearances, and built the relationships. Over time, we developed a repeatable methodology that works within the unique constraints of government contracting while still delivering modern, usable digital products.
Today, our team of designers, engineers, and strategists partners with agencies across defense, health, finance, and infrastructure — helping them modernize legacy systems, launch new digital services, and build internal capacity for sustained innovation.
Human-Centered by Principle, Not by Trend
Understand Before You Design
We invest heavily in discovery — stakeholder interviews, journey mapping, and data analysis — before a single wireframe is drawn.
Design for the Edge Case
Government systems must work for everyone, including users with disabilities, limited digital literacy, or unreliable connectivity.
Prototype to Learn, Not to Impress
Our prototypes are hypotheses. We test them with real users, discard what doesn't work, and double down on what does.
Measure What Matters
We define success metrics before we start and track them after launch — task completion rates, error rates, time-on-task, and satisfaction scores.
